My week from Heck

2d had a bad accident Thurs, July 9. She spent 3 days in Intensive Care, 1 day in regular hospital and has spent the rest of the time quietly at her home. I stayed overnite one nite but have spent the rest of the time coming over before work and after work to fix her hair for the day, wash dishes, etc. Meals were brought in until this past weekend and that was sure nice. She and e have enough left overs to last another few days and she is presently out of danger from her internal injuries. The broken clavicle is another story. Her visit to the bone doctor Thurs, the 24, was sobering. The exrays show that the bone is not only apart but cockeyed also. She has a brace that works now, the doc says the one the hospital sent home was not the one he ordered. If the bone does not come together and started healing, it will have to be repaired through surgery. All in all, she will not be recovered for much activity for 3 months.

She started teaching lessons again last week, but not violin, guitar or voice, only piano. She can fix her hair and do as much house work as she feels up to, including vacuuming, but with only one hand and arm and alot of pain, much doesnt get done. E helps as much as a 10 yr old niece can, which isnt much. 800 has taken over the yard, and 2s and daughter have taken over the summer horse project with e, and I pick up the pieces.

Naturally it created alot of stress in the family. 800 was totally upset, and for the first two days it was serious. We did not know how serious the internal injuries were then. The spleen was bleeding, and trace elements were leaking from liver and pancreas, but by the 3rd day all that was stopped and barring a bad wrench or fall during recovery, that part of her healing should progress. 800 has been unable to accept that, and would like to wrap her in cotton balls and move her back to her old room. She is resisting as nicely as she can, but has hurt his feelings several times.

She has also gone off her pain pills as she cannot drive when she is taking them. That is not much of a consideration right now and I don't worry since she hasnt figured out how to get up into her 4 wheel drive pick up and drive a stick shift onehandedly yet. That will come though as she gets feeling better and wants to go places. I have to admit she gets crabby when she is hurting and we are hovering too much. I only stop at night now, and dont offer to do extra unless she indicates a need.

I think she will have to evaluate what she will change in her lifestyle for the future, since her body is not in shape to do the strenuous activity it used to. Of course the aging process would have done the same thing, but two serious physical injuries in the last 3 years may speed that along in the areas of skiing anyway. Even her profession of music teaching may have to be adjusted if she cannot have good healing in the shoulder area. I hate to see her suffer pain as she ages, but we all have crosses to bear and this may be hers.

In the meantime, You are sufficient for all of us. Thank You for sparing her life.
